During the past days I ran WSPR on the 40m band. Results were amazing with stations receiving my signal all over the world. I was running 2 watts of output only into a low hanging 40m monoband dipole. Its main beam direction is straight up resulting in strong signals from all over Europe. But many reports came from the Philippines, Australia and America as well.

There was not much time for playing around in the CQWW CW contest. But I managed to work about 140 stations in 49 DXCC areas with my little low-hanging antenna. I heard many more countries but they were merely unreachable. A better antenna would certainly yield in more countries worked. But this result (Little bit over 15000 Points) with such short time (2 hours altogether) on the air is not bad.

23 July 2014 Heard BA4SI again in the morning. Early afternoon showed a short but strong opening to US. Worked K3OO (FN20) heard W3EP, W3JO, NR1R, W1AW/1, K1ZC, K2ZD and K1RO. Later in the evening the band opened again and I worked EJ3Z (IO43). Heard were VE2TZT, KP4EIT, NP4A and NW0W (EM27!!). (I looked back in the log ... found a North America opening, where I worked 67 stations, and my antenna was a lot smaller than today.)

21 July 2014 Wide spread opening to USA and Canada. Only got VY2ZM (FN86)
20 July 2014 Worked a few stations via Es
19 July 2014 Only worked GM and LA4YGA (JO37)
9 July 2014 The station's computer does not work any more. It is the only damage by the lightning stroke.

In the log are HB9, I, F, DL, PA, ON and LX1AD - Today nearly all in phone for a change. In the evening my antenna was hit by a part of a lightning. What a big bang.

Just before the football (soccer) match Brasil - Germany (1:7) last night (8 July), my antenna was hit by a partial lightning stroke. Everything was switched off before the thunderstorm arrived and the antennas were disconnected. When I entered the room after the thunderstorm I saw the computer had started and a strange smell was in the air. I stopped the computer and it does not start anymore. Hopefully there is no more damage than the power supply. - Add: Yes it was the power supply. Everything is fine again.
